Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) won't connect to wifi: what to do
The Nest Mini reports no wifi or the app shows a connection error.
Most likely causes
usually this
Your phone is on a different wifi band (5 GHz) while the Mini is on 2.4 GHz
- Check your router settings to confirm both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are active.
- Temporarily switch your phone to the same band you want the Mini to use, or disable 5 GHz on the router during setup.
- Restart setup in the Google Home app and select the correct network.
usually this
Wrong wifi password or router has special restrictions
- Make sure you enter the correct wifi password in the Google Home app.
- Temporarily disable guest networks, client isolation or MAC filtering on your router.
- Try placing the Nest Mini closer to the router and reconnect.
common
Poor wifi signal because of distance or interference
- Move the Nest Mini closer to the router (3–5 metres) during setup.
- Turn off nearby devices that cause wireless interference, like microwaves, while setting up.
- If it then connects, choose a permanent location with a stronger signal.
sometimes
Temporary app or device glitch
- Reboot your phone and power cycle the Nest Mini (unplug, wait 10 seconds, plug in).
- Open Google Home and try setup again.
Factory reset
Warning: a factory reset clears all settings, links and device data on the Nest Mini and is irreversible.
- Slide the microphone switch on the side of the Nest Mini to off; the lights will turn orange.
- Press and hold the centre top of the Nest Mini where the lights are.
- Keep holding for about 5 seconds until the reset starts, then hold about 10 more seconds until you hear a sound confirming reset.
- Release and wait for the Mini to restart; then add it again in the Google Home app.
