Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) app can't find it: what to do

Google Home app does not detect the Nest Mini during setup.

Most likely causes

Nest Mini is not in setup mode or the microphone is muted

  • Make sure the Nest Mini is powered and the top lights are visible.
  • Slide the microphone switch on the side off and on so the device is ready.
  • Wait 10–20 seconds and retry device discovery in the app.

Phone has Bluetooth or location turned off (needed for discovery)

  • Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and allow Google Home to use location if it asks.
  • Keep your phone physically close to the Nest Mini while the app looks for it.
  • Try discovery again in the app.

You are in a different Home or using a different Google account in the app

  • Check the top of the Google Home app to confirm you're in the correct Home.
  • Sign out and sign in with the Google account you want to use.
  • Add the device again from that Home/account.

Factory reset

Warning: a factory reset clears all settings, links and device data on the Nest Mini and is irreversible.

  1. Slide the microphone switch on the side of the Nest Mini to off; the lights will turn orange.
  2. Press and hold the centre top of the Nest Mini where the lights are.
  3. Keep holding for about 5 seconds until the reset starts, then hold about 10 more seconds until you hear a sound confirming reset.
  4. Release and wait for the Mini to restart; then add it again in the Google Home app.

Does Nest Mini work on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz?

Yes, but setup can be affected by band choice; temporarily disable 5 GHz if the app can't find the Mini.

Will a reset delete my Google account?

No, your Google account stays; the reset removes device settings and you must re‑add the device to your account.
