Philips Hue Hue Bridge app can't find it: what to do

During setup the Philips Hue app cannot find the Bridge.

We could not fully consult the manufacturer's support page for this model; the steps are general and may differ in details.

Most likely causes

usually this

Phone not on the same network as the Bridge

  • Turn on Wi‑Fi on your phone and connect to your home network (not mobile data).
  • Make sure the Bridge is connected to the router with the Ethernet cable.
  • Signal: the app starts searching and asks you to press the Bridge button.
common

Router has multiple networks (guest SSID or separate bands)

  • Ensure your phone is on the same SSID as the Bridge (not a guest network).
  • If you have separate 2.4/5 GHz SSIDs, try the SSID the Bridge uses or temporarily unify them in the router settings.
  • Signal: the app finds the Bridge during search.
common

App lacks permissions or is outdated

  • Check your phone settings to give the Hue app network permissions and update the app from the store.
  • Force-close the app and open it again to retry the search.
  • Signal: the app shows the Bridge or asks for the button press.
sometimes

Temporary Bridge error

  • Power-cycle the Bridge by unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in.
  • Try searching again in the app and press the link button when asked.
  • Signal: the app discovers the Bridge.

Factory reset

Warning: a factory reset will erase all lights, rooms, routines and linked services.

  1. Make a note of which lights and settings you want to restore later.
  2. Find the reset button on the Bridge; if you cannot see it, check for a small hole where a paperclip fits.
  3. Press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds until the lights blink or the Bridge reboots.
  4. Wait for the Bridge to fully restart and reconnect it to your router with the Ethernet cable.
  5. Open the Philips Hue app and follow the setup process to add your lights and services again.

Frequently asked

Does the Hue Bridge use Wi‑Fi?

No. The Hue Bridge connects to your router with an Ethernet cable. The app communicates over your home network.

Why can't I access my Bridge when I'm away from home?

The Bridge must be powered on and connected to your home router. Remote setup is not possible from outside your network.

Will I lose my lights if I reset the Bridge?

Yes. A factory reset removes all paired lights and settings; you must add them again afterward.

Can I have more than one Hue Bridge at home?

Yes, but each Bridge must be reachable on your network and integrations need to be set up per Bridge.
